Women into Investing

National Launch Event

12-2.30pm, 9 June at The Roof Gardens, Kensington

Registration is from 12pm with the programme commencing at 12.30pm

The British Business Angels Association and Finance South East are delighted to announce the launch of a new national initiative focusing on attracting more women into Business Angel investing and building on the BBAA's successful angel awareness campaign around the UK during the past year. We would be delighted if you could join us at this free to attend, lunchtime event at the spectacular Roof Gardens in Kensington, London on 9 June to find out more about this opportunity.

Business Angels are the lifeblood of early stage businesses, investing some £800m-£1bn annually across the UK in growing young companies. Business Angels invest not only money, but knowledge - often called "smart money". Whilst research shows that angel investing carries risks, investing in SMEs can bring attractive returns, showing the importance of the asset class and the implications for high net worth and sophisticated investors who could consider angel investment as part of their investment portfolio.

However, despite the high number of successful business and professional women in the UK, and with women accounting for nearly half the millionaires in Britain, currently only about 5% of Business Angels in the UK are women investors. Women are in a position to bring both their financial capacity, business skills and experience to support the growth and success of innovating small businesses, offering the potential for significant returns.

"... you are using the wisdom you have built up over your career to help others develop and succeed... you are providing your money and your knowledge to create success through others. That is a nice position to be in, because you feel you are giving something back."

The Event Programme will cover the background surrounding angel investing, as well as the rewards and risks of being part of this asset class. Experienced female Business Angels who have already taken the plunge will give firsthand accounts of their investing, including Rosemary Forsyth, serial angel investor, who invested in the highly successful Net-a-Porter whose founder sold out at £50m in April 2010. We will hear from an entrepreneur who will tell her story about what she has gained from having angel investors in her business. There will be an opportunity to learn about ongoing activities in your area and training sessions to enable you to become successful Business Angel investors, including the launch of a new member-led female investor club supported by Finance South East. A buffet lunch and networking in the beautiful gardens will follow at 1.30 pm and the event will close at 2.30pm.

We would be delighted if you would join us for the launch of this exciting initiative. Places are limited and we expect demand to be extremely high, so please click on the link below to register your interest - we will send you a confirmation which you would need to bring with you on the day. If you are an adviser to female clients who may be interested in joining us, please feel free to extend this invite. Please note the event is only open to women.

"... angel investing can deliver enormous satisfaction. If the investment goes well you can really contribute to that success, add value to the company and have a lot of fun at the same time."
